- A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect today for parts of central and east central Wisconsin.
- Wind advisories up to 50 mph are in effect for the entire area today
- A more powerful system will arrive for Thanksgiving weekend that will dump snow in southern Wisconsin.
Madison, Wis. (WMTV) – WMTV First Alert meteorologists have declared today First Alert Weather Day. Strong winds and snow are expected across southern Wisconsin today. The low pressure wave is becoming stronger as it approaches from the west. This low pressure system will pass through the state of Wisconsin and move eastward from here later today.
Snow showers will end in the afternoon, but the wind will remain strong. We have put a Wind Warning in effect for all of southern Wisconsin until 6pm today. Sustained winds will reach 30 to 35 mph with gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

What is happening…
Cold air is also settling in the entire area. High temperatures are expected to remain well below average for at least a week. High temperatures in the next few days will range between 20 to 30 degrees. Even cooler air will move in next week with high temperatures expected to be in the teens only Monday and Tuesday.


looking ahead…
Models are also indicating a strong area of low pressure moving in from the south-west later this week. Snow is expected on Saturday, with several inches of snowfall possible depending on the track this wave of low pressure moves through. Saturday is also First Warning Weather Day.
There will be snow on Saturday night and the weather is likely to remain dry on Sunday and the first part of next week.
