While many kids dream of a snowy day, one middle school student decided to take a more scientific approach to calculating the odds.

David Sukhin started Snow Day Calculator as a side project when he was in middle school. At the time, according to his website, he entered his weather information for his school district and then used a formula he created to get a forecast.

Now, the calculator automatically pulls weather information from Weather.gov for any ZIP code in the United States or Canada. Each year, more than 5 million users visit the site.
