Skip Bayless: Lakers have ‘greatest 3-man backcourt in NBA history’

Now that the Los Angeles Lakers are almost at full strength, they have begun to showcase their immense star power. LeBron James is back from his bout with sciatica for three games, and in Tuesday’s 135-118 win against the Los Angeles Clippers, he looked like his normal self with 25 points on 9 of 15 field-goal shooting, even if he’s still not quite asserting himself so much.

Meanwhile, Austin Reaves dropped 31 points on 11 of 16 shooting, and overall, he is averaging 27.9 points per game on 49.8% shooting from the field. Luka Doncic still leads the NBA in scoring and scored an impressive 43 points against the Clippers.

An argument can be made that, even if the Lakers are not legitimate championship contenders, they have the best star trio in basketball. The same argument was made by James’ well-known critic, sports commentator Skip Bayless, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Bayless called the trio of James, Reeves and Doncic “the greatest 3-man backcourt in NBA history.”

For the past few years, many have felt that Reaves was on his way to becoming an NBA All-Star, and this could be the season when that happens. If he does that, the Lakers will almost certainly have three men in the All-Star Game, and it’s possible no other team will be able to make the same claim.

It appears that the Lakers do not have a strong and deep supporting cast that teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks have. But at the top, they are at least as talented and powerful as any other team in the league.
