On Friday, the nonprofit organization released a new Tiny Desk Concert featuring two of the film’s stars, Miles Caton and Buddy Guy, making their Tiny Desk debut. The two play respective younger and older versions of the Smokestack Twins’ cousin Sammy Moore, and because they’re both really talented, they worked together on two of the film’s big Sammy-centric songs, “Travelin'” and the Oscar-nominated “I Lied to You.”
Before Caton arrives, Guy takes over the first half of the concert, where he and his band play two songs from their own blues history – that would be 1991’s “Damn Right, I’ve Got the Blues” and their rendition of Willie Dixon’s 1954 blues standard “Hoochie Coochie Man”. The guy can sing and play, and he has a fun energy, whether he’s accidentally swearing at the camera and trying to fix it or making some sexist jokes while Caton is trying to do his job. (The movie is erotic, so he’s just keeping the energy up!) Well, they play with each other very well as if two people are just talking, and when is it time for them to play together? Yes, man, that’s it.
It’s no surprise to hear two people together sinners’ The music is up for an Oscar, or why Guy himself won “Best Traditional Blues Album” at the 2026 Grammys for his latest album, not done with the blues. And as well as concluding Black History Month, the concert returns to the film’s idea of music resonating across time and different generations of artists. Hopefully they’ll get a chance to duet outside the scope of film – or at least stay involved with music as long as possible.
