Shopify really couldn’t have picked a worse day for the outage than Black Friday.
Many frustrated store owners (above) have resorted to exes to express their feelings – as one commented, “As a small business owner this sucks”.
Hopefully, this won’t last too long – the Shopify status page has it logged as “substandard performance” in areas like “API & Mobile” and “Point of Sale” rather than a partial or major outage. But at the time of writing, reports on Downdetector are still increasing…
What has Shopify said?
Shopify has confirmed this The status page states there is a log-in issue, with the title of the incident report stating “Some traders are experiencing error messages within their admins”.
Its latest post, about half an hour ago at 10.26am ET / 3.26pm GMT, said “to help avoid complications, please remain logged in on any devices you are currently logged in to”.
This advice may have come too late for many users, but if you use Shopify it is worth staying logged in so you are not affected by further problems. At the moment, reports on Downdetector are unfortunately continuously increasing, with reports in the US nearing the 4,000 mark.
a global outage
Shopify is a global e-commerce platform and today’s issue is hitting stores around the world. In the US, there have been about 3,700 reports from frustrated users, while in the UK reports have plateaued at around 1,300.
The main impact is that Shopify users are unable to log into their accounts and process orders, which is especially bad timing since it’s Cyber Monday and we’re headed into the holiday season.
Shopify has not yet revealed the cause of the problem, but said At 10.26am ET/3.26pm GMT the status page said it was “continuing to investigate the current issue”.
