‘Shifting Gears’ actor Maxwell Simkins to join 6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Stars are coming to town for Thursday’s 6abc Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade, including Maxwell Simkins of ABC’s hit show Shifting Gears.

6abc’s Alicia Vitarelli caught up with Simkins before her big appearance. The Ambler native is busy shooting Season 2 of “Shifting Gears” with Tim Allen and Bryn Mawr’s own Kat Dennings.

“It’s almost like a family,” Simkins said. “You all get very close together and you become like a family, which is funny, because that’s what we show on TV. So, it works. It works.”

As the parade moves along the Ben Franklin Parkway, Simkins will walk the route as fans cheer him on.

Vitarelli first interviewed Simkins in the 6abc studios 11 years ago, when he was just 8 years old and starring in “Love the Coopers”, his first TV interview.

Simkins said, “It was amazing to meet all these actors and actresses, and then I came to the Disney Channel, and you become a Disney kid, and now an ABC star.”

His credits also include “The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.” He is now 19 years old. Along with playing Carter in “Shifting Gears”, Simkins is also busy writing his own scripts.

“One of them actually happens to be in Philly,” he said. “I won’t give away too much, but it’s actually based on a true story.”

6abc coverage of the Dunkin’ Thanksgiving Day Parade begins at 8:30 a.m.
