Director Alexandria Stapleton says, “Being a woman in the industry, and living through the #MeToo movement — seeing giants in music and film go to trial, and knowing what their outcomes were… when Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I thought it could have gone in a million different directions.” “I wondered how he had the confidence to go up there against a mogul like Sean Combs. As a filmmaker, I knew right away that this was a stress test of whether we have changed as a culture, as far as how we’re able to process allegations like this in an impartial way.”
“It’s not just about Sean Combs’ story, or Cassie’s story, or any of the victims’ story, or the allegations against him, or the trial. Ultimately, this story is a mirror (reflecting) of us as a public, and what we’re saying when we hold our celebrities in such a high place. I hope (this documentary) is a wake-up call to how we idolize people, and to understand that everyone. is a human being,” says Stapleton.
“I’ve been committed to telling real stories through G-Unit film and television for years,” says executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. “I am grateful to everyone who came forward and trusted us with their stories, and I am proud to have Alexandria Stapleton join the project as director to bring this important story to the screen.”
Through explosive, never-before-seen material, including exclusive interviews with people formerly in Combs’s orbit, this documentary will tell the story of a powerful, entrepreneurial man and the gold empire he built – as well as the underworld that lies just beneath its surface.
Sean Combs: The Reckoning Will stream on Netflix from December 2. Check back here for updates on who is involved in the documentary, exclusive content and interviews, and more.
