Scattered light snow mix early to isolated PM rain showers across south-central PA

Scattered light snow to scattered PM rain showers across south-central PA

Today’s system is weak and does not produce much rainfall due to dry air. A more significant storm system could bring minor accumulations of snow on Tuesday.

Morning. We are starting this morning with a mix of snow that will eventually change to an isolated rain shower as we move into the late morning and some of the warmer air will come into the upper levels, we have made it an impact period this morning as there is a chance of snow in some areas. I’m not expecting any accumulation, but it could lead to some slippery situations. It’s a windy and cold start as we head back into the work week, and then more chances for snow accumulations on Tuesday as we look for a winter storm forecast for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. I’ll have more details on that later. So let’s take a look at the Storm Team live radar network. I’m seeing some light snow showers, a mix of light snow across Carlisle and you can see the white here. The return of brighter whites is where I’m seeing some of this fall and it’s coming to the surface, especially live in and around Chambersburg, Franklin County. Local eight is occupying so many areas. It feels like it’s raining down there, but the air at the surface is still dry. It’s not reaching, but it’s coming out of the clouds and if you look in the clouds you can see it, but you can see we’re calm and dry, but it’s all going to continue to move east. As I zoom out, there’s some light air already turning some of that precipitation into rain, so over the next few hours it will start to mix and eventually turn into isolated rain showers. And then this system will make its way out of here later today. Temperatures are currently in the low to mid 30s, but above freezing. So there is some good news. And as I zoom out you can see where that patch of warm air is, where the temperature is around 40. And we’ll see that warm air coming in, especially in the lower middle levels of the atmosphere. So this will help change things this morning. It will be mainly cloudy till afternoon, with only sporadic rain. Temperatures will slowly reach the 40s this evening, with partly clear skies tonight as we continue to see clearing skies. Windy and cool, sometimes windy, keeping temperatures below 30°C. Tomorrow the week will start with partly to mostly sunny skies, but the weather will remain blustery and cold. Temperatures are still below average, especially below normal for December. Tomorrow is the first day of December, so we’ll take a look at the forecaster to see if this system isn’t looking so impressive. You can see just some mixing here across our southeastern areas. It’s 9 a.m., but most people in the area can’t see anything. So it’s a quick hitting system. No accumulation, especially snow accumulation, is expected. It will be out from here. And then we see that the front actually comes in after noon. It can produce isolated rainfall. The sky cleared. We are looking good for Monday as high pressure is under control. We will see plenty of sunshine with some cloud cover during the afternoon and evening. And then here comes the system I’m talking about. is more important. Snow develops very early in the morning. Therefore travel may be slow on Tuesday morning. That’s why we made it an impactful day. The track of that low will be very important for where that rain line sets up further north. Then we see less snow in the south and east. Further south and east we will see greater amounts of snow across the region. Then that zip goes out from here, and high pressure returns with calm conditions for the rest of the week. So impact snow on Tuesday will develop, as I mentioned in the morning, then change to rain for some areas, depending on whether the rain snow line establishes minor accumulations before the change. We will see less amounts in the southeast, more amounts in the northwest. Still to be decided. The exact track of that low. The precipitation snow line, the timing of the transition, and snow totals will all affect. So we’ll keep you updated on rainfall totals in terms of today, we won’t really see more than a few hundredths of an inch. And again, there is no hope of snowfall today. The ten-day forecast shows that Wednesday, Thursday, Friday will be calm. Till December the temperatures are still well below average. We’re only going to see highs in the middle T

Impact Due to low pressure rising over the Great Lakes, light snow is possible this morning. The temperature is hovering just above zero. Please use caution when traveling early as there may be slippery areas, especially on bridges and overpasses. This morning, as temperatures rise, snow mixes with rain, especially south and east of I-81. This system is weak, and other than a half-inch of snow accumulation in Mifflin County, no other snow accumulations are expected. Scattered rain is possible this afternoon otherwise the weather will remain dry. Highs gradually reach the low to mid 40s. Winds from the south-southwest increasing to 10 to 15 mph at times reaching gusts of 25 mph. It’s a quiet, cool start to the work week. The maximum temperature is once again around 40°. There will be a little wind with northwest winds around 10 to 15 mph. The News 8 Storm Team is tracking the possibility of a winter storm on Tuesday, making it an impactful day. It is becoming more likely that a winter storm will move into the Mid-Atlantic. This will be the first snowfall of this season. There will be mainly snowfall in some parts of the region while there may be mixed rain in the south-east areas. The track of the storm will determine where the rain/snow line sets up and where snow accumulates. It’s still too early for snow totals as models remain very variable, but plowable snow is a possibility for some. Stay tuned for updates later this week. The remainder of the week into early December will continue to be below average. On most days, the maximum temperature will be around 30 degrees to 40 degrees, while the minimum temperature will be above 20 degrees. The next chance for rain or snow is Saturday. Have a nice day!
