Samsung’s Ballie robot is probably never coming out

Samsung’s spherical Bailey robot may be riding off into the sunset less than a year after its retail launch was announced. Smart home robots have appeared at CES almost every year since they were first announced in 2020, but were notably absent at CES 2026. Unfortunately, its disappearance may be because Baileys has been discontinued.

In a statement emailed to bloombergSamsung said that Ballie is an “active innovation platform” and “continues to inform how Samsung designs spatially aware, context-driven experiences, especially in areas such as smart home intelligence, ambient AI, and privacy-by-design.”

However, there was no mention of a consumer release of the robot. There was a flood of AI robots at CES this year, like Samsung rival LG’s CLOID robot. Bailey, the bright yellow soccer ball-shaped robot with a built-in projector and Google Gemini, would have been a perfect fit, but it looks like Samsung might not be releasing a BB-8 lookalike.
