Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold vs Apple foldable iPhone: Specs and rumors

Samsung has a new recruit to the foldable trenches, while Apple is set to join them soon.

On Monday, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Trifold, an oft-rumored foldable phone with two hinges and a massive internal display. It’s coming to the US in early 2026 and people are excited. However, Apple is also said to be working on a foldable iPhone, which will potentially be launched in 2026.

With that in mind, let’s take what we know about both devices and compare them.

It is noteworthy that only one of these devices has been officially announced. So, for now we only have actual details of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Trifold. Here’s how they move:

  • 10-inch main display with 2160×1584 resolution and 120Hz adaptive refresh rate

  • 6.5-inch Cover display with 2520×1080 resolution and 120Z adaptive refresh rate

  • Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy Chipset

  • 16 GB RAM

  • 512GB/1TB storage

  • 5,600mAh battery

  • Three rear cameras: 200MP wide, 12MP ultra-wide, 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom

In case you haven’t been paying attention to the news, the main selling point of Samsung’s new device is that it folds twice. It has two hinges that, when opened, reveal a stunning 10-inch display with 4K-ish resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a 6.5-inch external display so you can use it like a regular phone and keep it in your pocket, similar to how the single-hinged Galaxy Z Fold 7 works.

As I said, unfortunately we don’t have that much concrete information about the rumored iPhone Fold right now. The latest reports suggest that Apple has mastered some type of “creaseless” design, which would be huge. Recent foldables, such as Samsung’s, have made great strides in reducing the visibility of creases in unfolded displays, but if Apple could really eliminate this, it would really be on to something. To be clear, like most foldables, this is expected to be a single-hinged device. Some reports suggest that it will have a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.5-inch external display, making it significantly smaller than the Galaxy Z Trifold.

As far as cameras go, the Galaxy Z Trifold has a fairly standard set of lenses compared to other Samsung flagships. You get three on the back and one on the front, which include a 200MP main shooter and a telephoto lens on the back. We don’t know the exact details of the iPhone Fold’s cameras yet, but it’s believed to have four lenses, just like the Samsung phones. However, they will be organized differently; There will be two on the back and, for reasons that will surely become clear when the device is actually shown, there will be two on the front.

Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold vs Apple iPhone Fold: Everything else we know, or don’t know

Sadly, that’s about all we have in terms of hard information about both phones. Samsung’s device doesn’t have a confirmed US release date or price yet. A recent report suggested that the iPhone Fold could cost $2,399, which would be too high even for a foldable.

One thing we know about Samsung’s foldable is that it is thin, like other phones launched by Samsung in 2025. Samsung says that when unfolded, it is just 4.2 mm thick. A recent report said that the iPhone Fold will resemble two iPhone Airs tied together, so expect that device to be thinner as well.

If you’re excited about the Galaxy Z Trifold, you only have a few months left to wait. If you’re excited about the iPhone Fold, well… patience is a virtue.
