Manchester United Manager Ruben Amorim has been sacked, with Darren Fletcher taking charge for Wednesday’s Premier League game against. burnley,
Amorim indicated in a press conference on Friday that his relationship with club officials was strained – suggesting that he would not be fully supported in the transfer market.
And after Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds, the Portuguese took another dig at senior United figures, saying he wanted to work as a manager “not a coach” and was prepared to leave when his contract expired in 18 months’ time.
Less than 24 hours later, United announced that Amorim “has left his role as head coach of Manchester United”.
“With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership have reluctantly decided that the time is right to make a change,” United said.
“This will give the team the best opportunity for the highest possible Premier League finish.
“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”
