Rockstar Games says hack will have ‘no impact’

Rockstar confirmed on Saturday that some of its data was compromised in a breach by a third-party provider. The ShinyHunters group claimed responsibility, saying it had gained access to the company’s Snowflake instances (a cloud-hosting provider popular among enterprise customers) through the cost-monitoring and analytics service Anodot. The group is demanding ransom by April 14, otherwise it will leak the stolen data.

In a statement given to Kotaku, The company said the scope of the compromised data was limited and “this incident will have no impact on our organization or our players.”

It’s unclear exactly what data was compromised, but it appears the hack targeted corporate data rather than player information. It’s possible that financial records, marketing data, or contracts with companies such as Sony and Microsoft could be included.

This is not the first time that Rockstar has been the victim of a high-profile hack. In 2022, a huge repository of videos GTA VI Were leaked online by Lapsus$.
