Rockets jersey history No. 1

Houston Rockets players have worn a total of 52 different jersey numbers since their inception at the beginning of the 1967–68 season (and none are part of any numerical series for Houston assistant coach and general manager Carroll Dawson), a number worn by just under 500 players during the Rockets’ history.

To honor all of the players who wore those numbers over the decades, Rockets Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who have worn them throughout the years since the team’s inception to the present day.

With seven of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the all-time great Rockets who wore those jerseys, there’s a lot of history to cover.

And for today’s article, we’ll continue with the 14th of the 17 players who wore No. 1, Wings alumnus Iman Shumpert. After finishing his college career at Georgia Tech, Shumpert was selected by the New York Knicks with the 17th overall selection of the 2011 NBA draft.

The Oak Park, Illinois native would play the first four seasons of his professional career with New York. He also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings before being assigned to Houston in 2019. His stay with the team would last just 20 games before he signed with the Brooklyn Nets that same year.

During his time for the Rockets, Shumpert only wore jersey number 1 and averaged 4.6 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.
