PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns have continued their impressive start to the 2025-26 regular season, and even with a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder – Colin Gillespie has only gained more and more fans.
Perhaps the most notable figure recently was prominent analyst Skip Bayless, who took to X to highlight Gillespie’s play:
“Suns’ Colin Gillespie almost beat the Thunder in OKC – the kid can play – but SGA was in too much trouble again. Thunder lost the Cup.”

Colin Gillespie is earning respect
The start to the season has been a pleasant surprise for Gillespie, as injuries to players like Jalen Green and Grayson Allen have opened the door to more playing time.
Gillespie scored a season-high 24 points against OKC, leading all Suns scorers.
In both games he has started this season, he has scored at least 20+ points on over 50% shooting with 13 total assists.
Gillespie’s play has been impressive, although it is his patience and toughness that has allowed him to thrive on a Suns team that has placed a heavy emphasis on culture and style of play under first-year head coach Jordan Ott.

Gillespie stepped up in big moments, including a recent game-winner against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Gillespie later said, “I’ll keep saying it, there’s no quit on this team, keep fighting until the last second. I think the competitive spirit we have as a team started in training camp or even earlier in the summer.”
“We’ve got a really good group of guys that try to win basketball games, work very hard and compete at a high level and I don’t think anybody thought we were out of the game until the final horn.”
Colin Gillespie injury update
Gillespie collapsed in the final seconds of last night’s loss at OKC, injuring his left ankle while diving for a loose ball.
While speaking to Duane Rankin of The Arizona Republic last night, Gillespie said there was a gap between the scorer’s table and the court, which led to the injury.
Rankin said he was icing his ankle after the game but did not wrap it before leaving the field.
“There was a slight difference between the score table and the court I stepped on.
Suns guard Collin Gillespie took the ball off Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s left ankle and made a diving save out of bounds.

The Suns are back at home tonight against the Denver Nuggets for the second part of a back-to-back.
Tonight’s injury report has not yet been released, although Gillespie could be marked as either doubtful or out as their next match approaches.
