“Source: Tulane coach John Sumrall is expected to make a decision on his coaching future Sunday morning,” Thamel wrote on Twitter/x. “He is expected to choose between staying at Tulane, and his outside opportunities include significant interest from Florida and Auburn.
“Lane Kiffin’s decision for Sumrall also could have potential implications, as either LSU will be open or Ole Miss will be open on Saturday. Tulane is ranked No. 24 in the College Football Playoff and ends the season at home against Charlotte on Saturday night.”
As Thamel reported, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin’s decision Will definitely make things interesting. If rebels the gig opens or LSU remains open, Sumrall could draw interest from one of those schools.
As things stand now, Tulane is ranked 24th in the College Football Playoff rankings, the highest ranking for a G5 school this season. The Green Wave will be the current representative in the CFP coming out of the Power Four.
Sumrall is 18-7 at Tulane after going 23-4 at Troy in 2022 and ’23. With an overall record of 41-11, Sumrall is one of the hottest names on the coaching carousel.
Interestingly, Sumrall has SEC experience. he coached kentucky as a GA (2005-06), at Ole Miss as linebackers coach (2018) and at Kentucky as inside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator (2019-21).
