Razer DeathAdder V4 Pro Review: Almost the Perfect Gaming Mouse

The internal assembly of this mouse is surprisingly complex compared to other Razer models. Instead of a single printed circuit board (PCB) that houses the sensors, buttons, and everything else, the DeathAdder V4 Pro opts for ThreeOne is on the bottom of the mouse, which houses the sensor, battery, and a single micro-switch for the mouse buttons, A second PCB is located in the top housing, held in place by a bracket, which houses the scroll wheel and two main micro-switches for left and right clicks, A third PCB, housed in the same bracket, is located on the side along with two micro-switches for both side buttons,

Removing the bracket is fairly simple, but it does require twisting the housing or bracket (both made of thin, extremely light plastic) to separate them. This is not very difficult, but can cause problems if done improperly. The main advantage of this design is that there is less space between the mouse button and the micro-switch. To save money or reduce parts count, many mice will put all the internal parts on one PCB and use small hinged linkages to connect the buttons and switches. Although this may result in a simpler design, it creates more failure points and can have a negative impact on the button pressing experience.

Although there is a slight risk of failure in the connections between PCBs, it is unlikely. All three components are stationary inside the mouse housing, and the two parts are connected by a ribbon cable that doesn’t experience any strain during use. Although repair and disassembly on such a complex mouse will not be easy, any internal part is unlikely to experience random or premature failures. All of the sensors are rated by Razer for a hefty amount of actuation, and none of them are connected in an overly complex way. The battery looks standard and can be easily unplugged without any soldering. It’s attached to the bottom of the mouse with an adhesive, and although it won’t survive adhesive removal, it should be easy enough to stick a new battery to the shell.

The DeathAdder V4 Pro is a great example of everything coming together on one mouse. It has both great on-paper specifications and a solid build to back it up. Furthermore, Razer Synapse allows almost every aspect of the mouse’s performance to be customized to the user’s specific preferences – a way to close the ultimate gap between device performance and user expectations. This is a great mouse not only for competitive gamers, but for anyone who wants to customize their mouse to their exact needs. And in the age of ultra-adjustable Hall Effect keyboards, having a mouse with a similar level of adjustment seems like the natural next step.
