Syracuse, NY – Syracuse-born rapper Nau’Jor Grainger, better known as Toosie, has committed to play football for the Fran Browns, Grainger announced on social media Monday.
Grainger, who has 4.5 million followers on Instagram, took a recruiting trip to Syracuse earlier this year and posted photos from that trip on social media while sharing the news.
“When Coach Fran called, I knew it was a sign from God,” Grainger wrote on social media. “So that being said, because I’m coming home.”
The 25-year-old, best known for his double-platinum 2023 record, Favorite Song, is taking a break from his recording career in an effort to play Division I football.
Grainger was born in Syracuse and lived in Central New York until the age of 12. His family then moved to North Carolina, where he played high school football.
“I’m chasing history,” Grainger said in an Aug. 18 X post. “The first multi-platinum recording artist to go back to school and play Division I football. Next year I’m going to be on somebody’s team, mark my words!”
He was in Maryland for a game day visit 12 days later against Florida Atlantic. Grainger has been working out at North Carolina State’s facilities to get in shape for football.
