Hard to believe it’s been almost a year snow White The film hit theaters and brought with it more controversy than all the other live-action Disney remakes combined. Some of that kerfuffle was racist and came with the casting of Rachel Ziegler – Steven Spielberg’s half-Colombian star. West Side Story-And some of this came when, in the midst of the promotion cycle for her Disney Princess turn, Ziegler wrote “Free Palestine” on her social media.

Some took this as a dig at co-star Gal Gadot, who is Israeli, but Ziegler never elaborated on it. And Ziegler never deleted the post; This can also be seen after about 18 months. Perhaps inevitably, he is still being asked about the reaction. In a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar (via Entertainment Weekly), she talked about what she learned from the experience.

She said, “I said what I felt, and that will always be a testament to my core beliefs as a human being. That’s where I stand.”

Although she still believes in what she wrote, it was a teaching moment regarding “intent versus impact” because “you live and learn, and with that comes a caution.”

Ziegler continued. “There is an understanding that the temptation to speak out does not always mean it should be done, and there are many opportunities to make more meaningful change than a tweet.”

What’s more, “If I had been able to predict everything coming my way, threats to my safety, I would have thrown my phone in the ocean. I think any sane person would do that.”

You can read the full interview over at Harper’s Bazaar, where Ziegler also takes a positive note of the box-office flop Shazam! wrath of the gods The thing is, she is now part of a group chat with co-star Helen Mirren.
