pulp Fiction is back on Netflix, and other than the fact that it’s perfect, there’s not much I can say about the movie that you don’t already know. Say what you want about Quentin Tarantino, but you can’t deny how much of an impact this film has had on pop culture or how many cheap imitations it spawned following its success. pulp Fiction It’s not just a movie, because it was so ahead of its time in 1994 that it basically became its own genre.

They’re solid flicks in their own right but Tarantino already fails to fully utilize the energy he brings to the table. pulp FictionAnd let’s not forget the famous Season 7 Simpsons episode, “22 Short Films About Springfield”, which wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for Tarantino’s most memorable film,
non-linear storytelling without pretense
There is no doubt that pulp Fiction Popularized non-linear storytelling, but it’s one of the few films that does so without the “you need to be smart to watch this” thing. Memento It has its charm, but I have to be in the mood for its cerebral delivery. of 2017 Shimmer Lake is a brilliant neo-noir crime comedy, but it hinges on a big reveal that results in diminishing returns on repeat viewings. pulp Fiction Hits that sweet spot as it tells three interconnected stories across seven volumes that are easy enough to link together chronologically, but also work as standalone vignettes due to the next-level dialogue between its lead characters.
the best part of pulp Fiction Not necessarily the structure, but how authentic the dialogue feels as Tarantino treats the extraordinary, absurd moments as just another day for the characters we follow. Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) frolic about everyday things like fast food, foot massages, the battle between good and evil, and how good cheesy coffee is while they’re trying to make a corpse disappear with the help of Harvey Keitel’s Winston Wolfe, which I always come back to.
Mia Wallace’s (Uma Thurman) time with Vincent, which results in the most disgusting tomato joke ever, completely pays off after the brutal overdose scene that occurred moments earlier. And don’t even get me started on Butch’s (Bruce Willis) conversation with Marcellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) after his bad behavior with Maynard, Jed, and anyone wearing leather. every crazy scenario pulp Fiction Remains down to earth as each character acts like a real person.
Big Kahuna Burger with a MacGuffin Side
Most importantly, pulp Fiction advances its storytelling through the use of MacGuffins: What’s inside Marcellus Wallace’s briefcase? The world may never know, and Quentin Tarantino doesn’t want you to know. He understands that as soon as he tells his audience what Vincent and Jules are carrying, the magic ends. Half the fun is not knowing, because how do you get torn to pieces on Reddit after suggesting on Reddit that it might be Marcellus’ soul, using the bandaged back of his neck as your evidence of how it was removed from his body?
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what’s in the briefcase because we still get Christopher Walken’s fantastically awkward monologue about Butch’s prized gold watch and its infamous origin story involving several men’s asses. We learn that Quarter Pounders with Cheese are called Royale with Cheese in Europe thanks to Vincent, which is brilliantly offset by Jules’ poetic chants of Ezekiel 25:17 right before someone is hanged.
Seriously, what’s not to love about it pulp FictionIt’s highly quotable, can be viewed passively or actively depending on the day you’re spending, and it’s equally horrifying and hilarious. Countless films have tried to replicate this with varying degrees of success. However, if you are looking for the real deal, pulp Fiction is back on Netflix, and you should probably stream it right now.
