The General Wood Shop, located on Bridge Street, frequently features karaoke events, drag shows, and DJs.

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – A popular LGBTQ+ cocktail lounge on Bridge Street has announced it has decided to close its doors.

General Wood Shop, located at 507 Bridge Street, announced the news in a Facebook post Friday afternoon.

“When we opened in July 2023, our dream was to create a space where everyone could feel welcome, safe, and celebrated,” the post said. “Together, we built more than we once could; we created a community we will always be proud of.”

The bar offered seasonal sips and an extensive drinks menu, which included cocktails, mocktails, wine, draft beer and more. Visitors can also choose from a food menu ranging from appetizers and quesadillas to desserts.

Karaoke shows, drag shows and DJs were often featured at the bar.

“We want to extend a special thanks to our incredible team,” the post said. “Their creativity, warmth and dedication made GWS a special place. They poured their hearts into this place and brought it to life. We are so grateful for what they brought to this place and to each other.”

General Wood Shop did not give a reason for the closure. The bar also did not say whether the closure was effective immediately.

“Although we are sad to lose each other, we will always be grateful for the memories, friendships, and moments we shared together,” the post said. “Thank you for making General Wood Shop unforgettable.”
