Pluribus Star Rhea Seehorn Didn’t Know About That Better Call Saul Cameo Until Cameras Were Rolling

(Warning: The following contains spoilers for Episode 5 Pluribus“Got Milk,” which premiered at the beginning of Thanksgiving.)

Pluribus Didn’t kill all the lawyers. The fifth episode of Vince Gilligan’s new sci-fi series includes a surprise voice cameo appearance better call SaulPatrick Fabian – and even Pluribus star and partner saul Former student Rhea Seehorn was shocked when she heard from her former co-star in the scene.

“He surprised me,” Seehorn told TV Guide. “I was not aware of that.”

In the episode titled “Got Milk”, Seehorn’s Carol is abandoned by the others, who gang up after drugging Albuquerque and almost accidentally killing one of them, Zosia (Karolina Wydra), while trying to figure out how to reverse their joining. What follows is essentially a one-woman show, as Carol copes with her isolation and grief by doubling down on her investigation. Her only companion is the voicemail greetings left for her by other people, who insist that they are still committed to cheering her on from afar.

Seehorn did not know until the cameras were rolling that the outgoing message would be presented by Patrick Fabian, who played Seehorn’s Kim Wexler’s former boss, attorney Howard Hamlin. better call Saul“They were expecting me to do some kind of blooper take, but I was too afraid to mess up the take,” she said, “Not scared, but I didn’t want to do it – because I knew it would take a lot of time the first time she hears it,”

Despite his surprise, the seehorn did not break. “I don’t know exactly what tech they use, but I think if you found one of those psychologists or psychiatrists who study subtle facial muscle changes, I’m pretty sure you could see me going, What? patrick? But then I tried to cover the scene and run,” she said. “They said cut, and I started laughing and ran out and said, ‘That’s Patrick! You found Patrick!’ And he said he’d been sitting on it for a long time, just to mess with me.”

Much of the crew had previously worked with both Seehorn and Fabian. Like better call Saul and its predecessor, breaking bad, Pluribus Shooting takes place primarily in Albuquerque, and its creative team is filled with longtime collaborators from Vince Gilligan’s previous series (including “Got Milk” writer Ariel Levin and director Gordon Smith). This isn’t the first look at a sci-fi show breaking bad universe; For one, Carroll has already flown on the Wayfarer plane. But apart from Seehorn, Fabian is the first series regular of these Bad Or saul to play a role in Pluribus,

Still, for fans who know the fraught history between them better call Saul Hearing the messages from others delivered in the voice of the character, Fabian, gives it a strange passive-aggressive undercurrent. Once again, others may have sent a message they did not intend.
