I don’t know about you, but when I get into virtually any game, I immediately start crawling, going on a journey. I’m definitely on the verge of death, but that doesn’t stop me from dancing and jumping around for no reason other than it’s hard to sit still, like I’m a kid who drank too many energy drinks.
I’m no different in Ark Raiders. If I’m playing with a friend and I go down first, yes, I want a front row seat to the shootout, so I’ll crawl around for the best view and start doing donuts to distract the enemy. Surely there can be no downside to this…that’s what I thought until today.

It turns out that your down timer wears out faster when you’re moving than when you’re stationary, and that’s a pretty big difference. It’s hard to guess the specifics from the video, but if you sit still you can cling to life for at least a few seconds.
So all the time I have been wandering here and there unnecessarily, I am getting closer and closer to death. Lesson learned. Now if I need to I will move to cover and wait patiently until I revive, removing the keyboard by hand. I’ll really try, at least.
You can also extend the time before being downed by using the Downed But Determine skill, or even by having another player bandage you up. Personally, I would recommend spending your skill points elsewhere, but it won’t hurt if you have extra points. But Jinko confirmed in the YouTube comments to the above video that the players involved in testing the bleed-out speed had “zero points in any relevant skills that could have changed the outcome of the test.”
I would further like to know whether the crawl skill before you walk, which increases crawl speed when you fall, effectively speeds up or slows down this process. Given that you have to crawl for less time if you move faster, I think it’s the latter, but we’ve learned that a lot of mobility skills don’t work the way you expect them to.
