We recently surveyed Mashable readers about the smart home products they use in their homes, and the results are in. One of the easiest entry points into smart home devices is smart lighting. Smart bulbs are relatively inexpensive and easy to integrate into everyday use — whether you use a smart assistant for voice commands or simply control them through an app on your phone.
One of the biggest names in smart lighting is Philips Hue, which won a Mashable Readers’ Choice Award. I personally use Philips Hue bulbs in my apartment and recommend them highly, so I’m glad to see that our readers think highly of them, too.

How Mashable readers rate Philips Hue
Of all the smart light brands included in our Readers’ Choice Smartest Home survey, only two were honored with a Reader’s Choice Award: Philips Hue and TP-Link.
We asked readers to score their smart bulbs on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being best) on a number of factors, including bulb lifespan, routines and automation, and integration with smart assistants. Here’s how Philips Hue fared compared to the competition. (Interact with the chart below by clicking the arrow buttons or using the dropdown menu.)

Testimonies from Philips Hue users
Many survey respondents said the Philips Hue lights were “easy to use,” with one saying, “What a great product.” Another respondent said they had no problems with their lights.
One reader, who primarily controls her lights via Alexa voice commands, said, “For the most part they work pretty well,” and gave Philips a 9 out of 10 rating for both overall satisfaction and likelihood to recommend.
The common complaint among Philips Hue users, as I expected, is that the brand is expensive. A color-changing bulb starts at $24.99. One survey respondent, who rated Philips Hue a 10 for overall satisfaction and an 8 for likelihood of recommendation, wrote, “The only reason I would not be ‘highly likely’ to recommend Philips Hue is that they are relatively expensive compared to other brands.”
Philips Hue received an 8.1 rating on likelihood to recommend, which is the same score received by TP-Link.
