A suspect is in custody in Buffalo accused of shooting Jets player Chris Boyd in Midtown last month.
The 20-year-old man surrendered himself to law enforcement in Buffalo on Monday morning.
No charges were immediately filed. He will likely return to New York City in the coming days to face charges.
Boyd was shot in the abdomen on Nov. 16 and the bullet traveled through his lung and lodged in a pulmonary artery, police said. He underwent several medical procedures, posting on November 19 that he was “starting to breathe on his own.”
Last week, Boyd surprised his teammates by appearing at the team facility.
Boyd, known for his special teams skills, participated in the special teams meeting. At the end of the season, he was the player who broke up the meeting, much to the delight of his teammates. He stayed there for most of the day and reconnected with teammates and coaches.
“I’m pretty sure everybody who passed by gave him a pat, a high five or a semi-hug,” said defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, who was Boyd’s teammate with the Minnesota Vikings in 2022.
