Perplexity is releasing its AI browser to more users. Comet is now available to download for Android mobile devices from the Google Play Store. Comet initially launched this summer only for Perplexity’s high-rolling customers on the $200 per month Pro plan, but last month it expanded access to all users. It’s free on Android as it is now on other platforms, and has many of the same features as the desktop version. The mobile option has access to Perplexity’s AI assistant, and can summarize searches or interact with them by voice.
Perplexity has been clear about its goals in launching the browser as a way to collect customer data so it can target ads more effectively, and it’s not the only artificial intelligence company or tech company that’s trying to integrate AI into the browsing experience. These efforts have already drawn complaints from Amazon, particularly regarding AI in shopping, but they could yield big paydays for scammers.
