People Are Convinced Nathan Fillion Is Reviving ‘Firefly’ Via… Instagram Posts?

Firefly trio

If, for some reason, you don’t follow Nathan Fillion on Instagram, first of all, how dare you? But if this applies to you in any way, there’s a good chance you’re missing one of the most interesting running sci-fi gags in recent memory.

For the past few weeks, Fillion, who first rose to fame on the beloved show fireflyFilming the video with some of his co-stars from the cult classic show. And, in each one, they tease that “it’s time.” Time for what exactly? Is firefly Finally coming back after so long? Hmm. If only a certain actor on a certain show had a perfect GIF for “Wait, maybe not,” there’s a reason why.

It all started on February 23 when Fillion posted the video below with Gina Torres.

“Oh wow,” says Torres, who played Zoe on the show. “Does this mean it’s time?” Fillion replies, “It’s time.”

In the weeks that followed, she posted similar videos with Morena Baccarin (who played Inara), Sean Maher (who played Simon), Summer Glau (who played River) and, just this week, Jewel Staite (who played Kaylee). You can check out each of them at those links.

Now, you may be wondering, what about Alan Tudyk, who plays Vash? Well, all the videos are coming not only from Fillion’s Instagram but also from once upon a time we were astronauts Instagram, the podcast that Fillion and Tudyk co-created. So, that’s also part of it in some way or the other.

Some captions read “It’s Time” signs. For example, the caption on a Shawn Maher video posted last week read, “Some of you guessed convention, podcast, or crossover. You’re wrong.” With those three options off the board, many of the most obvious possibilities are gone. No rewatch podcasts. No big Comic-Con panels. No big crossover show featuring the actors.

Of course, one thing that hasn’t been ruled out is a revival or reboot. firefly. However, lest we remind you, firefly I got a second chance in the 2005 film, CalmnessAnd creator Joss Whedon has largely disappeared off the radar following allegations of verbal and mental abuse. You probably can’t do it without that, so we don’t think it is.

We know when the news is coming. Fillion’s most recent video with Jewel Staite confirms it’s coming on Sunday, March 15. This is the same day that Fillion and Tudyk are with each other. firefly Panel at Osmcon in Washington, DC. So, we are confident that they will announce the news then.

But what is the news? Well, firefly Started in 2002, which will make 2027 the 25th anniversary. We’re guessing now’s the perfect time to announce some kind of mega, 25th-anniversary reunion… something. Either a one-time event or possibly even a tour. This is pure speculation, but it would be a great way to give flowers to the show and honor another member of the crew, Ron Glass, who passed away a few years ago. (Start TBD if we get an Adam Baldwin video.)

Whatever the case, we definitely think this has been a fun little event, and we hope it ends up being something really special. We don’t think that if this was a revival or something bigger, Fillion would have done it this way.

What do you think Fillion and his crew are making? Calmness? let us know.
