Pronouns are words that are used only to describe other words, used in place of proper nouns. But, as we certainly know, in recent years this phrase has been adopted as a sure sign of a “woke” agenda. People who want to tell other people what pronouns they prefer are supporters of the crazy movement of allowing people to be who they want to be! Madness!
Well, immediately after Masters of UniversitiesAfter the trailer was released, some people online became upset about Prince Adam’s pronouns. You know. The guy they call “He-Man”. As in a proper pronoun, “he” is followed by “man.” He-Man literally has pronouns and has for almost 50 years. But now, undoubtedly, it is a problem.
Although, to be fair, we haven’t seen the film yet. We don’t know the specific context. On the surface, it seems pretty obvious that the “he/him” pronouns on Adam’s name plate point to the fact that he’s “He-Man” in the movie. A truth that he feels deep within himself but cannot fully accept. (Wait until people start getting deeper into that.) However, maybe it’s not that way. Maybe Adam is some kind of crazy liberal who put them on his nameplate as an act of woke defiance against his conservative colleagues. But we seriously doubt it.
However, there’s also a hint of anger about this moment that makes it so ridiculously obvious. Joking, yes, but also satire. This clever, seemingly throwaway moment almost feels like pure online anger fodder. Because, let’s face it, there are a lot of people in the world these days who watch media for the specific purpose of getting mad and reacting to it. This is very silly. so obvious. But, apparently, it’s also so profitable.
And so, yes, the accented hero has pronouns in his upcoming film. We love it, and we love that it’s getting exactly the response it was intended to. Just wait until She-Ra arrives.
