The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has lowered speed limits and imposed restrictions across the commonwealth due to Tuesday's blizzard. In south-central Pennsylvania, restrictions have been implemented on Interstates 81, 83, 78 and Route 30. "Although PennDOT crews are treating roads, the department's primary goal is to keep roads drivable, and they will never be completely free of snow and ice," said PennDOT's Dave Thompson. “PennDOT will continue treating roadways during the storm until the rain stops and roads are cleared.” The speed limit has been reduced to 45 mph on the following highways: Interstate 81: from Exit 59, Route 581/Route 11/Camp Hill, in Cumberland County, through Franklin County, to the Maryland state line. Interstate 83: From Interstate 81 in Dauphin County, through Cumberland and York counties, to the Maryland state line. Interstate 283: Entire route. Route 15: Between the Route 581/Interstate 83 exit in Cumberland County, through York County to the Maryland state line. Route 22: Between Interstate 81 in Dauphin County to the Route 322/State College exit in Center County. Route 30: Between the Route 24/Mount Zion Road exit in York County and the Route 462/Lincoln Highway exit in Lancaster County. Route 222: Between Exit 568/Route 272/Nodders/Adamstown in Berks County to Route 30/Coatesville/Philadelphia exit in Lancaster County. Route 283: Entire route. Route 581: Entire route. Commercial vehicles should also remain in the right lane. Other traffic restrictions: Tier 1 restrictions are in place starting at the Interstate 81 and 78 split in Lebanon County, and continuing through Allentown and the New Jersey state line. Some vehicles are prohibited during Tier 1 restrictions, including tractors without a trailer or with a lightly loaded trailer, motorcycles and motor homes.
