Patchy dense fog reducing visibility ahead of stormy conditions

Jacksonville, Florida. – It’s a mild start in Jacksonville this morning, and if you’re going out, I want you to be extra careful.

We are seeing dense fog at many places – at the airport, on the Southbank and around the city. As of this morning, visibility is down to about two miles in Jacksonville, and even lower in some surrounding areas.

Give yourself some extra time on the roads. Make sure headlights are on low beam, and keep an eye out for school-going children.

There has actually been a slight improvement in some places, like Gainesville, but fog is still sporadic and unpredictable. If you plan to travel soon, check traffic updates before you leave.

Rains and storms end drought

Here’s some good news: Rain is finally back in the forecast after an extremely dry November. In fact, Jacksonville didn’t see a single drop last month – something that had never happened before!

Showers are moving in from the Gulf this morning and moving into our area, with a 60% chance you’ll see showers or even storms during the day. Don’t be surprised if you hear some rumbling. Most storms remain below severe thresholds, but a “slight” risk means strong winds are still possible in some locations.

Our Exact Track 4D radar is lit up with scattered sprays—you might miss them, but the cells that grow could do damage. And it’s not just about today; Another weather system is aiming for us again by Friday, which will bring another round of much-needed rain just in time for the weekend.

If you don’t feel like being outside on a rainy day, this might be a good excuse for some indoor planning. And if your plans include dog walking, don’t forget a raincoat for both of you!

cold temperatures, changing conditions

Temperature-wise, we’re starting out in the low 60s this morning, with a high near 78 degrees before the next front arrives. After that, you’ll notice things rapidly cooling off – down to the 60s for highs by midweek and even the 40s for overnight lows.

However, this cold spell will not last very long; We expect temperatures to reach near average temperatures by Friday and Saturday, staying within a few degrees of the high 70s.

One thing that will remain: Due to this unstable weather, the feeling of humidity in the air will continue till Friday. After that dry air goes inside for some time.

If you’re thinking of going to the beach, keep in mind that there is a risk of moderate rip currents. Even though the sun is out, it’s still not the best day for swimming.
