OWEGAO, NY (WBNG) – Pace University setters are gaining a Southern Tier All-Star this upcoming volleyball season as River Hawks Maggie Hammed signed to attend Pace University on Monday afternoon.
The OFA senior has had an impressive career with the River Hawks, accumulating 1,064 kills, 143 aces and 457 digs throughout her career at the varsity level.
During her time with the River Hawks her team won 5 division titles, were crowned STAC champions twice and also brought home 4 sectional titles in Class A volleyball.
Individually, Hamed was named to the all-conference team for the past four seasons, was named to the NYS Class A Tournament team last season, was fourth team all-state in 2023 and was named Greater Binghamton Player of the Year that same season.
When it came to choosing Pace to continue her athletic and academic journey, Hamed told 12 News the school felt like the best place for her to grow both on and off the court.
Hamed said, “I committed to Pace for academics, they have a great academic program, and their athletic teams were my second reason.” “I just fell in love with the girls, and my coach Amanda Wilkins is amazing, and I feel like I can grow so much as a person and an athlete.”
Hamed plans to study psychology and sociology at Pace, with the goal of becoming a clinical psychologist working in children’s hospitals.
Congratulations to Maggie Hamed on signing the next phase of her journey!
