Our Favorite Travel and Outdoor Gear Is on Sale at Huckberry

Huckberry, bearer of Featuring finely crafted clothing and gear for people equally at home in the woods and in the city, this week is one of the company’s rare site-wide sales — or pretty close to site-wide. We’ve tested a lot of Huckberry items and love them, especially the Proof 72-Hour Merino T-Shirt. If you buy nothing else this year, buy that. Trust me. Check out the other deals we’ve listed below.

72 Hour Merino T-Shirt

Huckberry’s Proof 72-Hour Merino is our favorite merino wool t-shirt. The cut and style aren’t too sporty, making it more versatile than some others, from everyday wear around town to a trip to the gym. Even after six months of wearing and washing, my area is still soft. At 87 percent 150-gsm superfine merino wool (16.5 microns) and 13 percent nylon, this T-shirt is a great starter for newcomers to merino wool—it has enough nylon that it’s stretchy, and not itchy in the slightest.

These pants are a companion piece to the 72-Hour Shirt above. However, there is very little wool here. The breakdown is 47 percent merino wool, 33 percent nylon, 14 percent polyester and 6 percent elastane. The result is a more flexible fabric than a T-shirt, while still providing a good amount of moisture wicking and the odor-fighting properties of merino. My only complaint with these is that they seem artificial. What I like about them is the stain resistance. Yes, that DWR coating that gives them stain resistance will wear off, but it’s not too hard to rejuvenate.

These are the pants I wear when I travel. They are light, comfortable, flexible and weigh negligible. They’re 98 percent cotton, with 2 percent spandex to give them a little stretch. Unlike jeans, these have enough flex that you can easily do squats in them. There may be some stretch over time, but I’ve been wearing these for about a year and they still fit perfectly.

I love this jacket. This is the only jacket I’ve worn that anyone has complimented me on, which is also the case with another WIRED employee. Waxed canvas is certainly heavy, but it stands up great when worn. I’ve had my trucker jacket for over a year, and it still looks like new. I haven’t had to redo it yet, but I’ve redone other things, and it’s very easy to do. There’s also a fleece-lined version, which I haven’t tried, but I wish I had that instead of the flannel. It is also on sale.

GoRucks are amazing backpacks, but they aren’t cheap. Here’s your chance to get the GoRuck GR1 for a slightly lower price. It is a collaboration between GoRuck and Huckberry, with both companies’ branding on the pack. My favorite thing about the GR1 is its versatility. I’ve used this pack for air travel (as a carry-on), racking, hiking, hauling camera gear, etc. I even strapped it to the rear rack of my bike for overnight bike-packing trips. If you want to run with it, grab a weight plate as well.

The Yeti Hopper Flip 12 is a nice small personal-sized cooler. The Hopper Flip 12 closes with a water proof zipper, which has never leaked on me so far. With a 12 quart capacity, it’s not very big. Think six packs and sandwiches, depending on what you use to keep things cold (ice packs are one way to go with this).

It’s not a huge discount, but any time you can save some money on Snow Peak it’s a win. The company’s incredibly well-designed gear doesn’t come cheap. Get this mug, which costs the same as a $47 coffee mug. But look, it’s titanium, okay? And it’s double walled, so your coffee stays hot even on those bitterly cold mornings in the cabin. Wired editor Adrienne So has used these as camping mugs for 10 years.

If you’re going for mugs, you might as well get a French press.

You see where we’re going here – mug, brewer, and now mill. Yes, it’s a $140 (on sale!) military-grade aluminum and high-carbon stainless steel burr grinder, which, I know, is too much. It is also the best, most reliable hand grinder I have ever used. Mine is five years old and has endured years and years of travel abuse without missing a beat. It’s missing a little paint, but otherwise it works exactly like the day I got it. On sale, I might add.

Peak Design Everyday Bag

The Everyday Backpack is one of our favorite camera bags, but it doesn’t have to be the same. This is a really nice EDC backpack with some well-thought-out features, like a tuck-away waist strap, three FlexFold dividers, and a nice strap to attach it to the handle of your rolling carry on bag.
