In addition to the excellent price, the Nothing Ear (A) offers a surprisingly complete package. They have excellent sound for both music and phone calls, with an open midrange that’s perfect for more acoustic music. Our reviewer Parker Hall found them especially great for jazz listening, where twinkling highs and superb definition in the low end bring out the best detail in your tunes.
As with some of our favorite earbuds, they have excellent noise cancellation, and they have a great transparency mode if you need to be aware of your surroundings. With noise cancellation, you can expect 5.5 hours of run time on a single charge, impressive endurance for earbuds at this price.
Although they work well with both major mobile platforms, quick pairing is a nice advantage for Android devices. The touch controls are best-in-class, with a squeezable stem instead of capacitive touch that’s easy to reach quickly but won’t accidentally fire up when you scratch your ears. Although we found them really comfortable, they are a bit large, so those with smaller ears may want to consider a different option.
While the version we tested was race-ready bright yellow, all three colors are marked down on Amazon, at least as I’m writing this. The white pair clearly has an AirPod-like appearance, with a translucent stem standing out, and the black one is also marked down if you want to be more stealthy. While we believe the Nothing Year (A) is a great choice for most people. If you want something more traditional we’ve got a roundup that includes all of our favorite wireless earbuds.
