
OpenAI expanded its data residency area ChatGPT and its API give enterprise users the option to store and process their data closest to their business operations and better comply with local regulations. This extension removes one of the largest compliance barriers preventing global enterprises from deploying ChatGPT at scale.

Importance of data residency
Until now enterprises had few options for processing the data flowing through ChatGPT. For example, some organizational data will be processed under US law rather than European regulations.
If their data is processed elsewhere and does not meet strict policies, enterprises risk violating data compliance regulations.
“With more than 1 million business customers worldwide using OpenAI directly, we have expanded the offering of data residency – allowing business customers to store data in certain regions, helping organizations meet local regulatory and data security requirements,” the company said in its blog post.
