One of Our Favorite Large TVs Is $400 Off

on the hunt For a truly huge screen for your home theater? We recently put together a roundup of the best large TVs for anyone with a lot of wall space, and the mini-LED-powered Hisense U75QG sits at the top of that list. I spotted a massive 85-inch version on Amazon priced at just $1,298, which was $400 off the normal price.

Hisense

U75QG QLED (85-inch)

The first thing to know about this Hisense is that it has unreal brightness, to the extent that its capabilities are far superior to anything you will stream digitally. In fact, you’ll only really be able to see the panel’s true power with 4K Blu-ray, although this can be helpful if you have a particularly sunny room or it will be near a window. It has excellent black levels and deep contrast to match, with very little light blooming.

There are some compromises, unfortunately, such as weak anti-reflection, and off-axis viewing isn’t as sharp as some of our other picks. It packs in a full suite of four HDMI 2.1 ports, perfect for multi-console and Blu-ray players if you want to do some gaming over the weekend, with support for variable refresh rates (adjustable frame rates for games consoles and PCs) and auto low latency mode for quick response times from controller to screen.

Speaking as someone who has had to install an 85-inch TV on a wall, this is easily a two-person job, and if you can remove one a third person may be advisable. Even though the Hisense TV is lightweight, the 85-inch model is still around 100 pounds, so you’ll want to make sure the wall mount is seated properly in the studs, or your existing entertainment center is sturdy enough.

If that’s giving you pause, the price of the 65-inch model has been dropped to $797, and the price of the 55-inch model has been reduced to just $578. But for anyone looking for a big, badass screen to rule their living room, the Hisense U75QG is a great option, especially at the discounted price of $1,298.
