NVIDIA is a company, and amidst all this, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see the company forget about its more niche offerings like the Android-powered ones. Happily for everyone who has one of these powerful set-top boxes, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Not only is NVIDIA continuing to support its Shield devices, but it has launched its first proper one in almost a year. NVIDIA hasn’t given any strong hints that it’s preparing to launch a new Shield TV, but recently ArstechnicaAndrew Bell, The company’s senior vice president of hardware engineering said it has no plans to end support anytime soon, teasing that it has “toyed with new concepts.” Bell also said that the first Shield refresh since 2019 will likely support codecs like AV1 and HDR10+, as well as the latest Dolby Vision profiles.
The current NVIDIA Shield Android TV Pro remains the best streaming device for gamers, thanks to its ability to stream in native 4K and effectively upscale low-resolution content. And with NVIDIA’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service going strong, the Shield retains a unique place in the PC gaming ecosystem.
