Nick Viall privately apologized to Austen Kroll for insensitive interview

Sally Carson revealed that Nick Viall and his wife Natalie Joy privately apologized to Austin Kroll after his insensitive interview.

“They both called her and apologized,” the “Southern Charm” star revealed exclusively to Page Six Radio on Tuesday. “I think there should definitely be a public apology,” he said.

“I think it needs to be much bigger,” Carson continued. “I feel like, don’t you all want to apologize because you don’t really want to admit that it was wrong?”

Kroll appeared on the couple’s “Vial Files” podcast last month, during which he pressed her about the tragic death of her older sister Kyle. She died after falling off a cliff during a family hiking trip when she was 9 years old.

Carson said of watching the interview, “It honestly broke my heart for him.” “I called her to see if she was OK because I thought, ‘I’m sorry this must have been so hard.'”

The reality star told hosts Danny Murphy and Evan Real that questions about Kroll’s late sister seemed to “come out of nowhere.”

“I could tell he was uncomfortable because his leg was shaking. I’ve been friends with him for a while and I haven’t asked (about Kyle). It’s something I think he should talk about when he feels comfortable.”

Carson, 31, also agreed with Real and Murphy that if the pair were truly sorry the uncomfortable moment should have been edited out of the podcast episode.

Representatives for Viall, Joy and Kroll were not immediately available to Page Six for comment.

During the uncomfortable interview on January 7, Joey told Kroll, “Jumping out of ‘Southern Charm’ quickly, I’m sure we’re gonna jump back into it, but growing up with you, I didn’t know this about your sister passing away at 9 years old.”

Kroll, 38, replied, “Okay we’re switching gears.”

Joey continued to ask more personal questions, including how old he was at the time of the tragedy and whether he was there when his sister fell.

When he confirmed that he was there to witness the tragedy, Joey questioned him further and asked, “What was this rock?”

Kroll looked uncomfortable as he repeatedly shook his leg and refused to name the city where the tragedy occurred.

During the January 7 interview, Joey and Viall awkwardly debated the topic of their sister’s dramatic death and Kroll wouldn’t let it go, despite appearing uncomfortable.
Kroll himself also said, “Okay we’re switching gears.”

Fans and fellow Bravolebrities immediately took to social media to call out Viall, 45, and Joey, 26.

Kroll’s “Southern Charm” co-star Rodrigo Reyes commented about Joey, “She’s a POS.”

“The Valley” star Janet Caperna criticized the interview, commenting in an Instagram post, “It was too bad for her too….”

This was not the first time that comments made on the podcast had led to a heated exchange between the two.

Viall and Joey are known for giving unfiltered takes on their shared podcast and have faced criticism in the past.

In December, she received backlash for her mom-shaming comments about “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Whitney Levitt.

During the episode, the pair raised questions about Levitt’s venture as Roxy in the Broadway play “Chicago,” and many felt she indicated that their children were not their top priority.

“Vanderpump Rules” alum Stassi Schroeder later called him out on her “Stassi” podcast, and called his comments “weird.”
