Air travel has been busy over the past few months due to accidents, mass cancellations and schedule changes. Now, another airline has removed a nonstop route from its lineup.

JetBlue Airways has cut a route to one of Florida’s busiest airports, and it could impact your next vacation.
In August, we learned that routes between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tampa International Airport would be suspended beginning December 1. When we checked flights on JetBlue’s website today, we found that to be true.

For more than half of December, there are no routes listed between the two cities. On 18 December, flights are listed again, but only routes with stops.

We didn’t see any nonstop flights until April 29, 2026, when they went back to $79 per person one-way. This is all subject to change, but it would be good to keep this in mind when planning your trip for 2026.

Airlines are constantly cutting or increasing routes depending on demand. The same year, JetBlue added routes from Baltimore, Charlotte and Bogotá, Colombia. The airline is also suspending all service from Rhode Island’s TF Green International Airport.

Trying to get from Newark to Tampa? There are some solutions. The first thing to do is to check another airline. United has plenty of nonstop service between cities at reasonable prices in the first few months of 2026.
Another option is to book from a different airport. Newark is close to John F. Kennedy Airport and LaGuardia Airport – both of which have nonstop flights to Tampa.

Why fly into Tampa? Well, many travelers who want to venture outside of Disney World on their trips head to Tampa. Busch Gardens Tampa Bay is a very popular theme park, plus it’s much closer to the beach than Orlando. It’s only an hour to an hour and a half drive away, so it may be cheaper to fly into Tampa if you’re getting a rental car!
