Fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise may finally get a chance to visit Ancient Rome, but instead it may be through the Netflix adaptation of Ubisoft’s best-selling video game IP. Nexus Point News It was reported that the live-action adaptation will be set in ancient Rome and will include historical figures such as Nero, Rome’s fifth emperor.
With Nero potentially featuring, the news outlet has predicted that the TV series could be set between 54 and 68 AD during the reign of the infamous emperor. Details about Netflix’s latest video game adaptation are still scant, but the streaming giant and Ubisoft announced their first series starring Toby Wallace earlier this month. In the blog post, the plot was described as “a high-octane thriller centered on a secret war between two shadowy factions”.
Before the first casting reveals, Netflix greenlit an Assassin’s Creed TV show in July this year, five years after announcing that a series was in production. While the original plan to feature several different series in the franchise’s universe has changed over the span of five years, fans are still hoping for an anthology-like structure similar to the video games.
