Mozilla is working on a new tool for Firefox called AI Window. This will be an opt-in space to chat with the AI assistant and seek its help while browsing. The goal of this project appears to be to give users more control over when and how they choose to interact with AI. AI Windows will be another option for users alongside standard Firefox windows and Private Windows, which will continue to provide greater privacy protections. The feature is still in development, so interested users can sign up and respond to Mozilla’s blog post to be among the first users.
AI built into browsers is one of the current hot issues among tech companies. It appears that every browser provider and AI operation is engaged in an arms race to provide the best integrated solution. Mozilla is not immune to that pressure; It also introduced an iOS tool for Firefox earlier this year where you can shake your phone to get an AI-generated summary of a web page.
