Texas then took an 11-7 lead. chendal weaver Layup in transition at the 12:40 mark. The Sun Devils went on a 5-0 run to take a 14-13 lead following a layup by Alan Mukeba with 10:35 remaining. Anthony Johnson’s free throw tied the score at 15–15 at 9:17, before the Longhorns went on an 8–2 run over the next two minutes to take a 23–17 lead after a Pope three-pointer with 7:35 left.
Mark’s three-point play gave Texas the lead 28–22 at the 4:23 mark. The Longhorns led 32–28 with 2:31 remaining after a Weaver layup, before the Sun Devils closed the half with an 11–2 run to take a 39–34 lead at the break.
A pair of Bryce Ford free throws gave Arizona State a 44–40 advantage at the 18:18 mark, Texas responded with a 10–2 run over the next two minutes and took a 50–46 lead after a Weaver three-pointer with 16:17 left. The Sun Devils cut the gap to 69–66 after Maurice Odom’s free throws at the 9:27 mark, before the Longhorns responded with a 7–0 run over the next two minutes to make it 76–66 after a Vockaitis layup with 7:33 remaining. Arizona State responded with a 13–2 run over the next two and a half minutes and took a 79–78 lead after an Odom three-pointer at the 5:06 mark.
The final five minutes saw a tie four times and with 59 seconds remaining in the final minute, the score came down to 84-84 after a Massamba Diop hook shot. Texas responded with a Swain layup to take the lead 86–84 with 34 seconds remaining. Odum knocked down the game-winning three-pointer from the top of the key with 10 seconds left, and the Longhorns committed a turnover on their final possession.
