Men’s Basketball Faces Georgetown To Kick Off ESPN Events Invitational


Dayton – The University of Dayton men’s basketball team is headed to Orlando to participate in the 2025 ESPN Events Invitational, taking on RV Georgetown as part of the “Magic Bracket” at HP Field House on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.No. 9 BYU and Miami (Fla.) make up the rest of the Magic bracket and will play the Flyers and Hoyas on Thursday night.

 


UD (5-1) has won three straight games after defeating NC Central 74-55 on Saturday afternoon. Georgetown (5-0) is coming off a 92-75 win over Wagner on Saturday and already boasts wins over Kentucky, Clemson and Maryland this season.junior D’Shayne Montgomery Scored 17 points to lead four Flyers in double figures against NCCU, earning UD’s first A-10 Player of the Week honors.

 


Dayton and Georgetown have played each other three times in program history, with the Hoyas holding a 2–1 lead all time.

This year’s ESPN Event Invitational will be the first meeting between the two since playing in the Elite Eight at the 1984 NCAA National Tournament.

Dayton finished the 1983–84 regular season with consecutive wins, defeating Notre Dame by 10 at home, then winning 64–63 over Old Dominion. That strong finish helped the Flyers, who were 6–6 in January, clinch a berth as the No. 10 seed in the 1984 tournament.
