Pileup shuts down interstate
Icy road conditions led to a massive pileup of 45 cars on Interstate 70 on Saturday. The accident occurred outside Terre Haute, Indiana, near the Illinois border.
Notably, Indiana State Police public information officer Matt Ames reported that there were no major injuries in the pileup.

The Midwest has seen dramatic winter weather across the region this weekend. Lake-effect snow has buried areas of Ohio and Michigan. Winter Storm Bellamy has dropped nearly a foot of snow in parts of Iowa and Wisconsin.
Those conditions are especially dangerous for holiday travelers returning to interstate travel after Thanksgiving.
Food writer Jade Portman was one of several drivers caught in a massive pileup wreck in Indiana. Like the other drivers, he was not injured, although his car was damaged.
“We were at the back of the pile, where it wasn’t nearly as bad,” he said.
As he walked to the front of the wreckage to talk to an official, he said, “The front was very bad. There were families coming out of miraculously destroyed cars.”

Several cars were trapped in the wreckage on Interstate 70.

Cleanup crews worked for six hours to remove vehicles from the westbound lanes of I-70.
Hazardous driving conditions remain in the region, including much of the Midwest.
“If you don’t have to make any unnecessary travel, please stay home,” Officer Ames recommended on Facebook. If you must travel, officials recommend reducing your speed and increasing your distance from other cars on the road.
