Man dead and two under arrest after daylight shooting on suburban Sydney street | New South Wales

One person has been killed and two others are in custody after a broad daylight shooting on a suburban Sydney street.

Police were called to Carinya Street, Blacktown, at around 11.50pm on Friday following reports of shots fired in a public place.

Blacktown Police Area Commander Superintendent Brendan Gorman told the media that the man had been shot.

“We found a man in his 20s who had been shot in the neck, chest and leg,” he said.

“The ambulance, paramedics and police attempted first aid at the scene. However, he died at the scene.”

Police attempted to stop a Mazda utility leaving the scene with a man in his late teens and a man in his early 20s.

“That pursuit lasted about five minutes and ended with a minor crash, and the pursuit was terminated,” Gorman said.

The pursuit ended after the vehicle crashed on Kildare Road. Both occupants fled the scene and were arrested a short time later. Both have been taken to Blacktown Police Station. No charges have been filed.

Police have established the crime scene and started investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Gorman said the murder squad is assisting Blacktown Police Area Command detectives in the investigation. Although there is no threat to the public, members of the public are being asked to avoid the Blacktown CBD.

“At this stage, we do not believe there are any other people we are looking for,” he said.

“We are actively patrolling (the area). We have deployed several police at all times to ensure the safety of the community,” he said.

“We encourage people to report anything suspicious to police, and we will investigate anything in connection with this.”
