Maryland Heights, MO. – Lindenwood women’s hockey put on a dominant performance to earn a shootout victory in the final of its series with the Bemidji State Beavers on Saturday afternoon. Zsofia Pazmandi Who scored both goals and a shootout goal to lead the Lions offensively.After Bemidji scored the game’s first goal less than two minutes into the first period, Pazmundi tied the game at one with 1:49 remaining and missed an assist. Tatiana BlichovaBlichova forced the Beavers to turn the puck over behind their own net and found Pazmundi open in the middle of the ice, The Hungarian junior forward received a pass from Blichova, who was to her right, fooled the Bemidji goaltender, and scored on a wide-open net to send the game tied at one each heading into the first intermission, The Lions had 16 shots on goal in the first period and outscored the Beavers 16–10, but LU was unable to find another goal in the back of the net as Bemidji’s goaltender made 15 saves in the first 20 minutes of the game, Blichova and Pazmundi had three shots on goal in the opening period to lead the Lions offensively,
In the second period, the only goal came off the stick of Bemidji State’s Morgan Smith with just six minutes left in the period. The Lions eliminated two Beaver power plays in the second half, including a five-on-three, to keep the losses to a minimum as the Lions trailed 2–1 after 40 minutes of play. Lexington Secret Stepped up in a big way after allowing a goal in the second period, making 19 consecutive saves over the final 30 minutes of the game to keep Lindenwood in the contest. The equalizing goal finally came for Lindenwood. Zsofia Pazmandi The game was tied with 4:15 remaining in the third period. Pazmandi collected the puck deep in the Lions’ defensive zone and went coast-to-coast alone and scored on her backhand as she was falling to the ice to tie the game at two and send Lindenwood to its third overtime game of the season.
Both goalkeepers kept their teams in the contest in the extra period and made a combined nine saves, four of which came from Secreto. The Lions’ best chance in overtime occurred 45 seconds in when Pazmundi sent a saucer pass through the middle of the Beavers defensive zone that got a stick. Tatiana BlichovaBlichova was able to take a shot as she knocked the puck out of the air, but the Bemidji goaltender was in perfect position to make the save and tie the game at two, After no goals were scored in the additional five-minute period, the game went to a shootout and Lindenwood advanced to the shootout for the second time in two weeks,
