Johnny Depp’s life with former French partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children was “blissful”, the American actor told AFP in an interview on Thursday.
“I have nothing but incredible memories of those days. They gave me the time to be a tour dad,” Depp said in Tokyo.
“Vanessa was doing her shows, you know, different tours. I just have to be a daddy for a while,” the 62-year-old said.
“So the title of her record was ‘Bliss’. It was bliss.”
Depp was with the actor, singer and model from 1998 to 2012 and they have two children.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Edward Scissorhands” star has had several relationships with other celebrities, including Winona Ryder and Kate Moss.
His brief marriage to Amber Heard, which ended in 2017, grabbed most of the headlines.
He tried to sue The Sun newspaper for defamation in 2020 after the newspaper called him a “wife beater”, admitting that he had taken drugs but denying any violence. He has lost.
Two years later their marriage was exposed in an even more ridiculous manner during a libel trial in the United States, and this time Depp was successful.
The trial was a lightning rod for opposing sides of the #MeToo debate and Depp remains a toxic figure for many, especially in the United States.
He lost his role in the Harry Potter spin-off series “Fantastic Beasts,” but returned with “Jean du Barry,” which opened the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
Depp said at the festival that most of the newspaper stories about him were “fantasy, terribly written fiction”.
He directed the Amedeo Modigliani biopic last year and will appear in the upcoming “Day Drinker” and “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.”
“The thing that excites me today, that might give me a little electric shock, is something that surprises me,” Depp said in the interview, which requires prior approval for questions.

He spoke to AFP at the opening of an exhibition in Tokyo of dozens of his artworks created over three decades, following the show’s debut in New York.
“Acting is a form of expression, music is definitely the same, and painting, drawing, creating something,” Depp said at a press conference.
“I feel like it’s a true, constant need that I have to have. Otherwise my brain would explode.”
According to art retailer Castle Fine Art, Depp’s artworks in his first collection, “Friends & Heroes”, due in Britain in 2022, sold out within hours.
Media reports said Depp, who is also a musician, earned three million pounds ($3.6 million at the time) selling 780 prints through the art house’s 37 galleries.
He said, “I don’t claim to be anything other than a person who paints. I’m not even really a painter.”
