Lenovo’s Latest Wacky Concepts Include a Laptop With a Built-in Portable Monitor

do you like Do you have a second screen with your computer setup? What if your laptop could take over a second screen for you? That’s the idea behind the ThinkBook Modular AI PC, Lenovo’s latest proof of concept announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Lenovo has never been shy about showing off weird, weird concept laptops. We’ve seen a PC with a transparent screen, one with a rollable OLED screen, one with a rotating screen, and another with a flippy screen. Earlier this year at CES, the company showed off a gaming laptop whose display expands at the press of a button. Sometimes, these concepts are turned into actual products that go on sale (often in limited quantities).

At MWC 2026, Lenovo introduced three concepts. While it’s unclear whether any of them will become actual, purchasable products, there’s some unique utility here, and a glimpse of how computing experiences may change in the future.

As someone who is fond of multi-screen setups and portable monitors at home, the ThinkBook Modular AI PC appeals to me the most. At first glance it looks like a normal laptop. Glancing back, and you’ll see a second screen hanging magnetically from the back of the laptop, like a koala carrying a baby on its back.

The screen is attached to the laptop using a pogo-pin connector, so you can use it in this position to display content to people across from you, for example, if you were giving a presentation during a meeting. Alternatively, you can turn off this second screen, remove the kickstand hidden beneath the laptop, and magnetically attach it to the 14-inch screen to give you the experience of a traditional portable monitor. (You’ll need to connect it to a laptop via a USB-C cable in this orientation.)

If you don’t have the desk space for that orientation, you can always remove the keyboard from the base and pop a second screen in there — it’ll auto-connect to the laptop via pogo pin, and you’ll be able to use a Bluetooth keyboard to type on a dual-screen setup that resembles the Asus ZenBook Duo. The entire system is a great portable way to improve productivity on the go, and the laptop isn’t too thick or cumbersome.
