Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife MacKenzie Scott did wonders for his reputation by separating from him, but the same can’t be said for the Amazon co-founder. While Scott has been giving billions of dollars to non-profit organizations since his divorce, the tech mogul and his second wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, have not endeared themselves to the public with their billionaire behavior. When they’re not spending time on Jeff’s $500 million superyacht, the pair can often be spotted at high-profile events like movie premieres and the Met Gala. However, they missed out on getting ready for their Italian wedding in 2025. Jeff and Lauren’s $50 million wedding not only became a low-key affair for their celebrity guests, but also sparked protests from Venice residents already frustrated with overtourism. However, this behavior is not limited to parties and yachts; Bezos’ lavish renovation of his primary home in Florida also revealed how out of touch he is.
Located on Miami’s Indian Creek Island — dubbed the “Billionaire Bunker” — Jeff purchased the 12,000-square-foot property in April 2024 for a reported $90 million, and since then, he has spared no expense to make it a dream home for him and his wife. In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, the beachside property features a well-manicured lawn featuring sculptures that appear to resemble the work of Colombian artist Fernando Botero and a mix of local and imported trees, for which he has hired a tree surgeon to oversee the transportation and replanting (no, we’re not kidding). The couple’s home also features many outdoor amenities often found in similar properties, such as a firepit, pool, sauna, hot tub, and spa, but they added a regulation-sized pickleball court and a cabana office next to the pool to suit their needs and wants.
This $90 million mansion may just be a temporary home for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez Bezos
While the prospect of spending over $100 million on a home is certainly pretty eyebrow-raising, what makes this whole thing even more uncharacteristic (except for the fact that they decided to settle in an area that was so exclusive it was nicknamed the “Billionaire Bunker”) is that this property isn’t even Jeff and Lauren’s forever home. The Amazon co-founder purchased two other neighboring properties on Indian Creek for a total of $147 million, with the goal of demolishing the existing structures and building a much larger mansion that would span two lots. However, planning and construction didn’t begin until November 2025, so it’s unclear how big this home will actually be. Who knows? Jeff may be trying to outdo his other big property: his record-setting $165 million estate in Beverly Hills, California.
