‘Last One Laughing UK’ Season 2 review: If you’re not watching, you’re missing out

It’s not often that comedy actually makes you laugh out loud, but Last One Laughing UK – despite being a show that revolves around people No Laughing – manages this easily.

Back on Prime Video for a second season with an all-new cast, 10 comedians are trapped together in a room for six hours in a game show/reality TV challenge hosted by Jimmy Carr.

The only rule? If you laugh twice, you’re out. The person standing last wins.

What is? Last One Laughing UK About this?

The rules may be fairly straightforward, but there are a lot of twists.

The comedians – Season 2 includes David Mitchell, Mel Giedroyc, Alan Carr, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sam Campbell, Dianne Morgan and Bob Mortimer – spend six hours together in a large set with a kitchen, seating area and a stage. However, they are not left alone to their own devices. Watching from the control room, Carr and co-host Roisin Conaty could call in and request that any artist play their “joker” card at any time. It is essentially a miniature standup set, in which the performer comes on stage to perform a short (and often very bizarre) routine, while others are forced to gather on the sofa and watch.

Look, here’s Diane Morgan giving a very absurd reading of Dylan Thomas’s book “Don’t Go Soft on That Good Night”:

Along with the clowns, the show is full of other little tasks, challenges and surprises. The result feels like a fast-moving variety show, where everyone involved is constantly on the verge of hysteria.

The challenges set for the contestants aren’t as random as Alex Horne’s show, but they have a similar silly and surreal flavor. Season 2 sees Bob Mortimer wrestling David Mitchell, Maisie Adams confronting Romesh Ranganathan over his biggest regrets, and Sam Campbell and David Mitchell slowly walking towards each other while yelling for as long as possible.

The fact that no one is allowed to laugh fills every moment with a kind of manic energy. There’s a constant, fierce tension that increases every time the camera cuts to a reaction shot of someone who is trying desperately to stop snoring.

Last One Laughing UK Season 2 Has Some Amazing Surprise Guests

Season 1 featured improvisational acting with Danny Dyer, presenter Alison Hammond falling out of a fridge, and a psychic reading ted lasso Actor and comedian Nick Mohammed. In other words, it’s a tough lineup to beat, but Season 2 is already doing well.

The clip below features famous British presenter Richard Madeley, who calls the cast on stage one by one to ask them some ridiculous interview questions that are very difficult to solve without pausing.

Bad news? Last One Laughing UK Season 2 is only six 30-minute episodes, each of which moves very quickly. Good news? Five episodes have been released so far and the finale airs on Thursday, so there’s plenty of time for entertainment before the Season 2 winner is crowned.

Last One Laughing UK Season 2 is now streaming on Prime Video, with the final episode dropping on Thursday.
