KPop Demon Hunters is getting a sequel, obviously

Get ready to be even more K-pop, demonic, and as predatory as possible. Netflix’s smash hit, Oscar-nominated animated film kpop demon hunter is returning for a sequel, with fictional Korean girl group HUNTR/X coming back to deliver pop hits and destroy evil boy bands (and/or other monsters).

Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will once again direct, marking their first project in an “exclusive multi-year writing and directing partnership” with Netflix.

It was Netflix’s most popular film of all time upon its debut, the company’s widest theatrical release and first-ever box office No. 1, nominated in both the Best Animated Film and Best Original Song categories at this weekend’s Oscars (and a lock for at least one award, if not two), and the breakout song “Golden” topped the charts in more than 30 countries and held the No. 1 spot on the U.S. charts for 18 years. After a steady stream of episodes over six months last year, this sequel is likely the next step for many.

Kang confirmed this to Netflix’s Tudum, “There’s so much more to this world that we’ve created, and I’m excited to show you. This is just the beginning.”
