Lexington – Kentucky basketball has hosted Tennessee Tech five times at Rupp Arena.

It won’t surprise anyone to learn that the Wildcats lead the series 5-0.

Tonight marks the sixth meeting between the two, as UK and coach Mark Pope welcome one of their own to Lexington. John Pelphrey, who starred at Paintsville High, spent five seasons (1987–88 to 1991–92) at Kentucky.

Pelphrey is in his seventh season leading the Golden Eagles. Their record at TTU heading into tonight’s game is 69-123 (.359 winning percentage). His all-time record as a college head coach is 218–249 (.467) in 16 seasons. Pelphrey spent four seasons (2007–08 to 2010–11) as Arkansas’ coach, where he went 69–59. His first head-coaching job was at South Alabama, where he compiled an 80–67 record over five seasons (2002–03 to 2006–07).

Tennessee Tech is 3-3 this season, while UK is 4-2, ranked 18th in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll and 19th in the AP Top 25.
